Also on display and equally impressive is HMS Warrior, the worlds first iron hulled armoured warship, powered by both steam and sail.
The Mary Rose story dates back to Henry VIII who saw this, his favourite ship, sink in front of his eyes taking many men to their death. Through the quest to discover, excavate and raise her from the sea bed she is now on display once again, in a new exhibition that will open in 2013.
Porchester Castle is situated close to Portsmouth and is a medieval castle built within a former Roman fort, occupying a commanding position at the head of Portsmouth Harbour. Controlled by the monarchy for many centuries, the castle was the disembarkation for several campaigns to France led by English Kings.
Today Porchester Castle is used mainly for recreational walks and is an ideal place to picnic in the summer, offering excellent views of the Portsmouth coastline and the harbour.
