Conveniently midway between London and Calais, Leeds Castle was later extended by King Henry VIII. The Castle is totally surrounded by water giving it a charm that is unsurpassed anywhere. In more recent times the Castle was bought in 1926 by Lady Baillie, an Anglo American Tycoon who restored it and lived there until her death in 1974. She established the Leeds Castle Foundation, a private charity trust whose sole aim is to preserve the Castle and its grounds for the benefit of the public.

Hever Castle is located in the County of Kent as is known as the childhood home of Anne Boleyn. The castle dates back from the 13th century and was home to the Boleyn family through many generations,it’s set in magnificent gardens and surrounded by a moat. The estate stretches some 3,500 acres and was restored by William Waldorf Astor in 1903. The rooms inside have many artefacts dating from Tudor times, including Anne Boleyn’s Books of Prayer, the Dining Hall used by Henry VIII and some very elaborate wooden furniture.

Chartwell, often combined with a day tour from London to Hever Castle, was the country retreat of Sir Winston Churchill, war time leader and a national hero during the 2nd World War. Churchill bought the estate in 1921 and completely transformed the existing building, remodelling it to his personal taste. Churchill was also involved in designing the grounds and gardens and even built the brick wall surrounding the kitchen garden where he would often sit and paint.
